Local Flora was started in the fall of 2017 by UNC-Chapel Hill students Eric Sugarman (guitar, vocals), Steve Wood (guitar, vocals), Charlie Garnett (bass, vocals), and Peter Joyce (drums). Born out of a desire to play jam-inspired psychedelic rock and make people dance, Local Flora's music draws on a wide variety of influences, including artists like Tame Impala, Toro y Moi, Real Estate, and Mac Demarco, as well as the improvisational style of jam bands like the Grateful Dead, Phish, and Umphrey's McGee.
Local Flora recorded their debut self-titled EP Local Flora in a Chapel Hill home, releasing the album on January 1, 2018. While a new full-length album is in the works, the band feels most at home connecting with audiences through live music.
